Hive Fleet Raiden -- CHALLENGE COMPLETE - Full Army Photos

Postby WildWeasel » Fri Dec 20, 2013 2:14 pm

After doing the Dark Angels for my gf for the 2013 HPC (and currently expanding those with some Ultra allies), we figured they need some proper enemies to fight, and there's a new Tyranid codex coming and I have loads of bugs sitting around waiting to be built and painted....

So I'm tossing in for the Bugs this year. Obviously I won't be whipping up lists till the codex drops, but I have a Battleforce and Trygon already painted, so my scheme is down.

Why Raiden? Just have a look....Image

I just need to get these Ultramarines finished for my GF so she can field them as allies to her DA, then it's on to my first bug commitment: 30 Hormagaunts!

That Nid scheme is sexy!
Also really liking those Ultramarines. Great job.

General thoughts on the direction for my force, pending the codex release:

I'm not aiming for GT-level competitiveness, more "mess around at the game store and huck dice." My core idea is to go more of a swarm: at least 100 small bugs for the 2000 point list, with the primary backbone being Warriors (esp if synapse creatures get EW back) and other medium bugs. I'll prob have an MC or two, but they aren't a high priority.

My paint scheme was designed with an eye towards large swarms, and is intentionally very simple. It uses mostly P3 paints, with a few GW ones.

Prime white

HIDE
Base: P3 Trollblood Base (two coats generally)
Wash: GW Corellia Greenshade
Drybrush: P3 Trollblood Highlight
I then apply a light wash of GW Carroburg Crimson into the "ribbed" sections along arms and such.

CARAPACE AND CLAWS (Thunder Green)
Base 1: P3 Wurm Green
Base 2: P3 Necrotite Green (2-3 coats)
Edges: P3 Cygnar Yellow
Glaze: GW Lamenters Yellow

GUN SYMBIOTES
Hide Base: P3 Sanguine Highlight
Carapace Base: P3 Sanguine Base
Wash the whole thing with GW Carroburg Crimson
Hide Highlight: light drybrush of P3 Kommando Khaki
Carapace Highlight: Edge with P3 Sanguine Highlight.

OTHER DETAILS
Black mouths with white teeth.
Tongues, venom sacs, eyes in a brighter red (GW Mephiston and up).

Spray the whole thing with a matter spray, then gloss the main body and gun carapaces.

I like the idea of the black mouths like some earth Reptiles. Feels dangerous.
