combat squad and drop pods

Hello all, just getting back into the game, and kicking things off with some ultramarines. So as I read, can I combat squad before deploying with a drop pod, like have the heavy weapon and 4 dudes from a tac squad deploy on the field, and have the other half deploy via drop pod assault? There was nothing that really hit me over the head not being able to do so...

Yeah you can do it that way OR you can decide to combat squad them and still drop in the same drop pod and split up on the ground. You decide to combat squad during deployment but 2 combat squads can still deploy inside the same transport.

How about this... Can you combat squad while in a rhino and shoot different targets?

Combat squads can reenter a rhino after splitting??

Yeah buddy. And yes, they are 2 different units for the shooting rules but are specifically given permission to share a transport. I cannot see a reason why the Missile Launcher from combat squad 1 and meltagun from comvat squad 2 couldn't use the 2 rhino fire points.

Page 80 of the BRB(not the mini) is the page that talks about fire points.

"Unless specified differently in the vehicle's entry,a single passenger can fire out of each Fire Point and the other transported models cannot fire."

The rest of the paragraph talks about if the vehicle moved, if it fire smoke launchers, or if the model firing out of the Fire Point uses a Beam power or a template weapon. But it does say model.

So me personally would agree that yes, because Space Marines can have two different squads in the same Rhino thanks to the Combat Squads rule, then you can have a model from each separate squad fire out of the given Fire Point they use and even at different targets.

I don't see why not. I wouldn't restrict multiple units riding in a Superheavy either.

Well some super heavies address that. Some like the Gorgon super heavy transport and the Manta state that they can carry "X" amount of transport capacity and that they can be from different units.
