Early color test.
I think the helmets will be bare metal; and the mask will be either a khaki or Afrika Korps desert yellow. I may change the pants to match the color of the gas mask. Come to think of it; I make make the backpack and the air-filter/rad meter thing that khaki color too.

But the real question here is: Red or Blue?
The blue is hasn't hat any highlighting done, while the red has. I'm leaning toward the blue myself; as the red looks a little Ronald McDonald. Maybe use the red to signify Vox operators?

Any thoughts on splitting the difference and using the spit colors for unit designation? Otherwise, I prefer the blue.

That's a good idea; either different squads or maybe ranks. Kind of like how my tau have a different variation on the paint scheme depending on the Force Org slot the unit is in.

I got a suggestion on Reddit to try to make the greatcoat look reversible, so I've tried adding an urban camo look on the folded back portions of the coat. I also darkened the yellow on the pants so they were more of a khaki rather than strait up yellow.

So that has lead me to the idea of doing this reversible coat idea on the rank & file, but on the Watchmasters & Officers to give them greatcoat with the blue or red cuffs and interior.

Well I've got some time today before family obligations take over, so I decided to take a small break from working out the color scheme to assemble something for the phase II portion (as all the phase I models are already assembled).

So I've started on the Thunderbolt that I picked up at a 40K "yardsale" a few weeks back.

A) Thunderbolts look awesome and I can't wait to see yours!

B) I think you should do the differeing color schemes for units. If nothing else it will help differentiate them on the table top.

C) Damn you for starting already! Now a feel behind! :P

Keep up the good work and hopefully this holiday break I will be able to get mine started as well.

Very cool. I like the idea for doing a "functional" scheme for the reverse. Looking good.

So awesome...
I like the blue better than the red myself, reversible coats is a good idea.

Well this is embarrassing.
I completely mis-pointed my 1k list. It's my own fault, I was originally planning on using the Siege Regiment PDF army list, and didn't double check that things were the same when I switched to the Assault Brigade.

And on top of that I forgot about the no-dedicated transport rule...

But I am glad that you can basecoat models ahead of time; because this is a stupidly large number of models to paint. and I'm going to airbrush the yellow basecoat on all of them to save me a little bit of time later on. Now I just need the rest of the models to arrive.

And here is the updated list, pulled from the correct army list this time:
Death Korps Command Squad: 155pnts
Power Sword, Carapace Armour, Vox Caster, Quarter Master

Combat Engineer Squad: 86pnts
2 Additional Engineers, Vox Caster, Mole Launcher Team

Death Korps Infantry Platoon:
-Command Squad: 136pnts
Platoon Standard, Meltgun, Plasmagun, Commisar
Jr Office Upgrades: Power Sword, Carapace Armour
Commisar Upgrades: Power Sword, Carapace Armour

-Infantry Squad 1 : 90pnts
Power Sword, Vox Caster, Flamer

-Infantry Squad 2 : 80pnts
Vox Caster, Flamer

-Infantry Squad 2 : 80pnts
Vox Caster, Grenade Launcher

Death Korps Grenadier Storm Squad: 150pnts
Vox Caster, Flamer, Melta, Heavy Flamer Team

Death Korps Grenadier Storm Squad: 145pnts
Vox Caster, Flamer, Melta, Heavy Stubber

Heavy Weapons Platoon 75pnts
3 autocannons

69 models: 997 points

Frankr,

I love the DKoK models. I wish that I could swing that kind of army. I'll have to live vicariously through you and others on the forums paining Krieg for the challenge.

I love the idea of a different scheme. I would definitely say go yellow/blue. Those colors contrast so nicely. I agree with you on the whole basecoating thing. I wish I had more of my models already purchased and built as that is going add a lot of time each month!

Good luck on the challenge, I look forward to seeing your army all painted up!
