Loopy - Imperial Knights

Post by Loopy » Tue Dec 20, 2016 1:48 pm

So, I've started an Imperial Knights army. I picked up some Forge World knights from my trip to England back in the spring. I did some trading and also used some Best Painted tournament winnings to buy some regular GW knights.

I am still crafting the narrative for my knights army in my mind, but I do know I want to use the Black Knights scheme I used for the Grey Knights commission I did a couple of years ago. The scheme is based off of Maleficent from Snow White.

Here's the building process.

Some people say these knight poses are easy. Some say they are hard. I found them rather challenging, but worth the effort.

I used 2 cans of Rust-oleum Universal Metallic Paint + Primer Flat Soft Iron for the basecoat.

Then, I drybrushed everything with Leadbelcher and Ironbreaker.

The bases are random bits, rocky pebbles you get from the aquarium section of the store, and also sprue that has been ground up in a manual meatgrinder to simulate rubble. I also ground up some bitz to add to the mix. Then, I added sand flock to the base.

Image

I also picked up some shield and damage markers from Mechanical Warhorse which I incorporated into the bases.

I'll probably just go ahead and paint one knight to completion as a "test model" so I'm 100% sure I want the scheme to be a certain way.

Wish me luck!

Looking cool! If I only had the money for one knight (Which is true) Which knight should I get? Which one is the most versatile and also the least wallet busting?

I suggest getting a Knight Warden. It's got lots of shooting potential, but still has the sword for Str D in close combat.

If you want to get a Forge World Knight, I feel like the Lancer is the coolest model and has initiative 5 on the assault, so it can contend with Wraithknights.

I think the incubi darkness as the highlight for the black is working. I think if people ask me if it's black or blue, I'll tell them that the model isn't black, blue, or even purple. The color of the model is "Shadow" with a "Twilight" spot color. :)

Waiting on some decals from ebay, then I can finish the rest of the freehand and basing.

Almost done!

So, I have quite the conundrum. Someone on Facebook asked me if I was gonna do a different disney villain for each one. I said, no, I'm gonna use the same scheme and just name each knight for a different dragon from history and literature.

Then I got to thinking...

What if i did each dragon in the scheme of these different dragons? What do you guys think? Cohesive scheme or cohesive theme?

Possible schemes:

Knight Lancer:
Falcor - Bone white and gold - no flame (black sky in mural)

Knight Acheron:
Smaug - basically the same colors used for the smaug mini from Games Workshop - orange and red flame

Knight Styrix:
Jabberwocky - swamp green - fire resembling swamp gas

Knights Gallant:
Drogon - very very very dark red with orange and red flame - Probably one of the two Knight Gallants
Trogdor - green - orange and red flame

Knights Warden:
Melificent - Black and Purple with Green flame (already done)
Tiamat - gray with multi-colored flame

Or do you think I should stick with the cohesive paint scheme?

Grendel - ??
Humbaba - ??
Vritra - ??

Thoughts? I'm still very torn on not having a cohesive color scheme.
