HPC 2016 Word Bearers

Postby Snakins » Wed Mar 30, 2016 8:29 am

Hey guys. I started my Hobby Progress Challenge in February and I thought I would start a thread to show my progress. Currently I have completed these three commitments.

I got married in February so you can imagine I had minimum hobby time which meant my entries were not that big. I want this to be achievable and I don't want to get bogged down with massive commitments. I think I can get a decent sized force even if I don't go too mad.
I went for a Horus Heresy Word Bearers army. They will mainly be Calth Marines with a some Chaos thrown in to show how corrupted they are. I'm not a great painter but I want them to look as good as I can make them.
So hopefully this is the start of a decent looking army!

Looking very cool so far. Always nice to see another convert to the Word. What's next?

Thanks very much Eldarain! Probably will get another tac squad and another Contemptor. Got an idea for using 40k Chaos Marines as Vets but need to work out the exact loadout.
I had a look at your Gal Vorbak and the colours are fantastic!

That Gal Vorbak release is what sold me on the WB. Amazing minis. Ive been kitbashing Mk III and the basic Chaos Marines kit for my Assault Squads to good effect. Leaves Heresy pieces to later go back and make more of the 40k guys fit in to the time period. Look forward to your next commitment.

I'm at the halfway point! Dead chuffed with what I have done so far. Planning to get a little more corrupted over the next five commitments. I'm going to make those Word Bearers look really evil. Might even pop some tanks in there as well. Really enjoying the challenge and now it's time to change ends for the second half!

Looking good so far! Keep it up. You use an airbrush for that nice, clean red?

Thanks very much! No airbrush just quite a few thin coats of red and some drybrushing. I was really happy with the result.

Boom! Just finished my last commitment and here is the army in all its glory!

Image

I am super chuffed with the army. It was a sprint finish at the end but it's completed to a decent tabletop standard which is what I was aiming for. I am going to do some objective markers and possibly a display board soon but I'm proper chuffed to have got the models done. I may add new units in the future but right now I think I need to paint something that isn't red!
I'm not a very good nor fast painter so it is a bit of a chore to me, so doing the HPC was a revelation. I was so motivated and really hope to do it next year but maybe be a little more ambitious with my commitments. Big loves to all the commentors with the advice and really friendly comments and finally a big thanks to Loopy for setting this up. You are awesome man!
