HPC2016 - FrazUK's Sons of Horus

Post by FrazUK » Sat Jan 16, 2016 6:09 am

Hey Everybody,

Apologies for not finishing 2015's last two commitments, this year I'm hoping to organise my time better to get all 10 commitments.

So this year it's all Sons of Horus as I have a ton to do on them.

First 5 commitments I have planned:
Image

3 10-man Tac squads, Feb Mar and Apr.
Betrayal Contemptor and various arms, May.
Sicaran tank, June.

Both vehicles are getting some brass etch icons soon.

As for the remaining 5 commitments I have some options:
At least 1 Reaver squad will be a lock-in(how could you not?).
Betrayal Plastic lightning claw terminator squad I'm pretty sure will be another, I'd like to boost them to 10 for mincing blob squads.
My two IC commitments will be in this 2nd block, allowing for a more even split of time as video game season builds up.
Looking at getting the Spartan tank for transporting the tacs/terms. Or maybe that Caestus(Terms don't count as bulky? cool).
Some Justaerin as a ranged term option.
Horus himself.
Maybe a rhino if those plastic Deimos whispers are true.

Paint schemes:

The scheme on the left will be Reavers, right for tacs, vehicles and HQs, Justaerin will get their usual colours of black brass and red.

I haven't found a base theme yet, hopefully I'll catch some inspiration from the forum.

Thanks for viewing, any feedback welcome. *EDIT* Anybody want a poll to decide the last 5 commitments? If so I'll list multiple IC choices as well.

Looking great man. The Caestus is hard as nails. Just a shame its a terrible kit (as in to build). It's not complicated or hard, just nothing fits properly.

Cheers Olddog.

Hey Dave, that's been my main worry with every FW vehicle but the Sicaran alleviated a lot of my concerns with only a bent base plate and autocannons. I'll check out the kit for bends, see if it's improved any(benefits of WW being your FLGS ;) ).

Loving the brass etch on them. Is it hard to work with/ does it bend?

Lucky you have WHW so close, i'm only about hour and half away but i'm just very bitter with FW at the moment. Love the models, hate the crap quality of the resin they use. The last £800 worth of kits I purchased have been terrible.

Cheers Dave.

The brass does bend as you file off the cut lines but easily bends back, that looseness is actually beneficial for dry-fitting to get the fit flush with the model. I used just fingers to fit them but would recommend some tweezers for better control.

I've got 6 HQ choices for my SoH, most will get done as side projects, Horus and the Librarian will be commirments in block 2:
Image
(L-R)Master of Signals, Praetor, Librarian, Horus, generic Centurion and a Legion Champion.

- Master of Signals is required for the Black Reaving and clocks in cheap as an HQ anyway.
- I really like the plastic Praetor, he comes well-armed by default and his armour is a good proxy for the Cataphractii Primus relic.
- The Librarian is a mix of SoH upgrades and mk4 bits from the Sternguard kit, modelled to fit the lack of Psychic Hood rules in HH and the Council of Nikea ruling. The only identifiers are some scrolls/book, the aesthetic green stuff on his left hand and glowing eyes when painted.
- Horus is in need of a new primer layer as that one is 4 years old.
- The Centurion can cover multiple Consul roles but most likely use him as a Delegatus from the recent errata for small-scale games.
- Legion Champion is part-painted in Justaerin colours as that's where a Legion Champion should come from.

Looks like a solid plan of attack, excited to see these come along. Especially the HQ's, those are such amazing models.
