 Cheap ass primer
The cheap primer that I mentioned in Episode 3 is called Board to Pieces. It only costs $8 for a 10 1/2oz can. Except for some clumping as it goes on (which goes away as the model dries) this stuff is totally worth it. The clumping may be due to the nozzle.

 Cheap ass primer
All a matter of perspective. GW will charge $15!

 Re: Cheap ass primer
wow, they used to be the "expensive" primer at like $7.99 a can...back in perhistoric times the osh brand primer was actually really good for minis as it wasn't thick and wouldnt clog up detail, the only drawback was the black was really more dark gray.

 Re: Cheap ass primer
I've purchased this before, but I have had a lot of problems with the nozzle spraying correctly. The nozzle sprayed a lot of goo on two separate cans.

 Re: Cheap ass primer
Consider Krylon or various autobody primers that aren't gap-filling (for obvious reasons). Much cheaper, performance is about the same.

I'd recommend Dupli-color. It is an automotive sand-able spray primer that comes in a variety of colors and cost around $5 from most Automotive parts and supply stores. You can occasionally find it a places like Target or Walmart also.

 Re: Cheap ass primer
Augh, I totally forgot .. I saw some inexpensive primer at a Jo-ann's last week, but I forgot the brand name. The brand was pretty forgettable and I was already traumatized by having to go into Jo-ann's in the first place but it was $4.99 a can for white, black or red primer.
They've got a %40 coupon for any item too so you can get it for dirt cheap. This is a special for the new store that just opened up on Almaden Expy (Almaden and 85) so I dont know if it extends to any of the other stores, but I think this is a pretty good deal. They also have the Krylon primers at $7.99 in satin, sandable, and regular thicknesses.
edit: I think the brand name was American Accents

 Re: Cheap ass primer
American Accents also used to make some textured sprays that are great for terrain.

I bought some duplicolor because I heard people raving about it. The actual performance of the stuff isn't bad at all, however, the spray nozzle on the can (at least the one I got) is just awful. I lose more paint to it just gathering and dripping down the side of the can and pooling than I do on the actual model. Due to the way the nozzle is designed, you can't just remove it and replace it when a nozzle from a different spray can (probably to discourage use in tagging). Either way, due to that problem I couldn't even get through my can of duplicolor and since just shelled money out to try out some Armypainter stuff, which is awfully expensive, but at least it doesn't suck like Armory, it's not just paint like GW, doesn't glide on like a dream like Tamiya Fine Surface primer, and um...it's more expensive than Krylon! No seriously, Armypainter stuff isn't really bad. Just the cost puts me off. I'll probably experiment with some other brand next.
