Great paint job, but I'm also impressed by your photos. Nice work.
Bolter marines never go out of fashion. They are the little black dress of troops choices.

Like all good mommas without hands, she licks them when they're born. That's why her tongue is so red.

Fantastic use of gloss on the bloodied areas.

Thank you, but in reality it is simpler i used a mix of these two paints:

They dry both transparent and glossy, so you have to apply them after the matte varnish. The red alone is a bit too bright, if it is a thin coat, so I mixed it with smoke.
I tried to archive a similar effect with normal colors and gloss varnish before, with a mix of blood red and dark flesh, but since they are both opaque you have to highlight them separately and you have to be extremely precise with the varnish. This stuff is both the better looking and easier to use, it just is very smelly (it contains isopropanol and glycol ethers, so nothing for unsupervised children or badly ventilated rooms).

The different solvent also gives it a completely different drying dynamic, in the process of drying it becomes like jelly, which can be used to create different effects, like short thin strands or droplets. I left those off though, because they are very flimsy and probably wouldn't survive repeated transportation and play.

In the guides i found on the web, before application, they often mixed the red with water-based acrylic black, to get a nice hue, but that is a bit harder to work with, since just a tad too much water-based acrylics can ruin the gloss effect, and it also makes the color more opaque. There is also yellow, orange, blue, green and clear (since you cannot dilute it well with water, <edit:> you actually can, so it's just a different gloss varnish), so, when i paint nurgly stuff in the far future or need some quick water effect for a small puddle, I am set. Also since it dries clear you can use it to shade windows.

<edit:> Will probably post a write-up in the products section tomorrow.

I love this stuff. I have not tried anything except the clear red mixed with the acrylic black, I think using the smoke would be a lot easier and neater (well, still messy! )

Really great work! I would love to see some afterbirth covered Gants for the ones spawned in game!
