I've always thought of it in a simple shell and skin manner because usually the better a Tyranid's armor save is, the more of a percentage of their bodies their shell plates cover. I mean, the ribbed areas in the middle of the muscles and the joint areas I think of as just a more flexible kind of skin.

Ok, cool, that makes me feel a bit better. Pretty much how I though about it. I suppose my knowledge of the relative armor saves probably colored my opinion as well. Thanks.

A little look at my painting process while working on the Devilgants.

I really like the yellow/green colour your using there. Is it a mix of something or a moot green type?

I use a lot of artist's acrylics that I thin down myself as I paint. The yellow/green is actually from the Amsterdam® Acrylic Colors line, specifically the Greenish Yellow 243.

Other colors I use are usually Delta Ceramcoat (midnight blue & cape cod blue) and the grey I use is actually a gesso primer that I can't recall the brand of at the moment.

I really can't recommend any of it to anyone else for the purpose of painting mini's with, it just works for me. Having used paints geared specifically for mini's (primarily GW's) working with these others is a lot more work in comparison. I'm also cheap, and have most of my paints left over from college and previous non-miniature related art projects.

Wow - sounds very cool - but yes I think I would get lost trying to fathom other paint systems as I am just getting to grips with the current GW one after 12 years away from it.

They are looking great though - the system really works for you!

I use Delta Ceramcoat colours for everything except my metallics. You need to thin them down a little, but other than that I've been happy with them. You get like 4x as much paint for 1/2 the price, which is why I buy them.

Early progress: Base coat on Trygon close to done. Getting a quick start on this month's goal. Think I will be able to make the stretch goal too.
