pablothegreat - Crimson Fists CHALLENGE COMPLETE

Post by pablothegreat » Sun Jan 27, 2013 4:16 pm

I'm a little late to the party, but gonna try it out regardless!

I'm a xenos army lover, so this being my first Imperial army, it will be a bit of a learning curve!

My army list as of January 27, 2013:

HQ:
- Pedro Kantor w/ Honour Guard (w/ relic blade) in a Rhino
- Librarian w/ terminator armour
HQ Points = 465 points

Elites:
- Sternguard Veteran Squad x10 w/ 2x powerfists w/ 2x combi-flamer
- Dreadnought w/ close combat w/ heavy flamer w/ extra armour
- Terminator squad w/sarge in a Land Raider
Elite Points = 850 points

Troops:
- Tactictal Squad (9 Marines w/ 1 flamer and 1 missile launcher) w/sarge w/chainsword in a Rhino
- Tactictal Squad (9 Marines w/ 1 flamer and 1 missile launcher) w/sarge w/chainsword in a Rhino
Troops Points = 410 points

Heavy Support:
- Vindicator w/siege shield
Heavy Support Points = 125 Points

Grand Total: 1850 points

Since I am posting this just prior to February 1, I will declare my February commitment to be 1 tactical marine squad.

Please let me know if I am doing something wrong with declarations, etc.!

July 12 - list updated (couldn't afford models on original list - using what I have!)

Red = unpainted
White = commitment in progress
Blue = finished and met commitment

Here are my before pics for my February commitment (Tactical Squad):

I got some brass etch shoulder pads from Forgeworld. Putting these on was probably one of the least fun moments in my 13 years of hobbying!

I hope to get these primed later today.

Welcome aboard! The CF scheme is a really nice one, I look forward to seeing how you execute on it.

Brass etch on pads is indeed a headache. Looks like you got it done alright from that pic though. You use white glue (Elmers type) or superglue?

I used superglue - that's what the tutorial I found from Secret Weapons Miniatures said to do!

Here's some progress:

Base coats

I'm slowly figuring out how to take better pics... working on that.

I just read that I can now have Stormravens in my army - I'd love to change my list to accommodate that, but taking out the Vindicator is the only place and it's still not enough! Anyone know what the points cost will be?

It's 200 for Grey Knights and Blood Angels, base, so I imagine it'll be about the same.

They look really nice. I'd be happy to face them on the field of battle. I can't wait to see more.

February Commitment met!

I pulled a long session into the night to get these done, as I am super busy by the time the 28th rolls around.

My inexperience in painting really comes through - I'm not too good at highlighting and while it is not as obvious at arm's length, it's hard not to self-critical looking at the photos. I've never really cared about painting until the last year, so highlighting is now my area to get better at! After doing the blue highlights (which don't look so "Tron-like" in real life), I started to understand how to do it. I also picked up a new brush for highlighting, as I didn't have a proper tipped one. On my red highlights, I felt like I improved. I'm not planning on cleaning this up now, gotta move on. In the future, if I have the time and care, I might re-do them.

I put my Orks next to them, as they are similarly based.
