July pledge

Post by Whitestagg » Wed Jun 26, 2013 7:58 pm

:ugeek: Doing a unit of 5 Devastator Marines (all different weapons) for July. All will have magnetized heads so I can swap them out into tac. squads or whatever. The sergeant is going to get a chainsword and an auspex for now but they will be magnetized as well.

The bases that I have been using are really nice but they are a pain to get two marine feet on so I am going to try and cut them up a bit before I paint them so I don't have to do so much touch up when assembling them like the previous unit.

Also, I have to cast their BA shoulder pads still as well.

Man, that's a beautiful red. Those Terminators (and tac Marines especially!) look fantastic. Great highlighting and shading too - I'm impressed!

Man, prepping devs is so much more work than tactical marines...

And getting everything to line up proppa...no wonder these things aren't more popular.
But all done with prep so on to the fun part.

Devastators all finished!

Post by Whitestagg » Sat Jul 27, 2013 2:59 am

Here is the unit of Devastators for my July pledge.
All of the heads as well as the sergeants left arm and right hand are magnetized.

I know the auspex isn't done. The screen is still a bit out of my reach for now so I'll save it and do it later.

I love the cabling on the big guns - very simple striping technique for the grey ones that, at non zoomed image level, look really good. Very cool hazard stripes on the belt feed, too. Logically, it's the most dangerous part - the bullets! lol

Yeah, I hear you. Zoomed up the tubing doesn't look so hot but it's nice at normal distances.
Love me some hazard stripes.

August Pledge 1/2

Post by Whitestagg » Sat Jul 27, 2013 6:22 pm

For August I am going to do my commander, the august Captain Castigon, and his honour guard.

Went kind of bonkers adding gubbins to these guys and fishing out special bits. Modeling them was a ton of fun but painting them is going to be a task, quite like the DC and Sang. Guard that I have already done.

Sergeant head is magnetized for red thirst and a few of them have magnetized arms for possible weapon swaps. All have magnets in their backs for possible jump packs (though until they get a new dex that is unlikely because they are hella expensive)

Based on the reaction to my devs, I have to call these guys old fashion cause the swords are getting hazarded and everyone is getting a gold helmet.

Also, there is a tad bit of paint on the captain already but hopefully the fact that everyone's legs are home resin cast will make up for that bit of a head start on the painting. Cleaning up the legs is a chore.
