Brninghalo - Chaos Demons - CHALLENGE COMPLETED!!!!!

Post by Brninghalo » Sun Dec 30, 2012 11:07 pm

As several other members have posted, I began listening to the IC podcast in the midst of the 2012 Hobby Challenge. I followed the progress and enjoyed the overall event.

Here is my entry for the 2013 Hobby Challenge.

HQ: Skarbrand, The Exiled One (300pts)

ELITES: 3 Bloodcrushers of Khorne, 1x Fury of Khorne, 1x Chaos Icon (155pts)

ELITES: 3 Bloodcrushers of Khorne, 1x Fury of Khorne (130pts)

TROOPS: 12 Bloodletters, 1x Fury of Khorne, 1x Chaos Icon, 1x Instrument of Chaos (232pts)

TROOPS: 12 Bloodletters, 1x Fury of Khorne, 1x Chaos Icon, 1x Instrument of Chaos (232pts)

TROOPS: 12 Bloodletters, 1x Chaos Icon, 1x Instrument of Chaos (222pts)

TROOPS: 12 Bloodletters (192pts)

FAST ATTACK: 12 Flesh Hounds of Khorne, 1x Fury of Khorne, 1x Karanak (225pts)

HEAVY SUPPORT: 1 Soul Grinder, 1x Phlegm (160pts)

Total: 1,848pts

Included below is a shot of the army in its current condition:

Some models are primed black, most are bare plastic. There is some build work left to do (attaching axes to bloodletters), basing work and some minor conversion work as well.

Since I am using Skarbrand, I am using the standard GW Bloodthirster model. My plan is to convert a figure, based on the GW Bloodthirster to include in the Hobby Challenge.

Thanks to Carl, Geoff and the rest of the IC staff for running this event !

Tom

Hey Tom,

That's a good looking Khorne list. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

I'm thinking about getting a Khorme army very much like this (once I finish off the ones I'm working on, yeah right) so I'd love to know how it plays on the tabletop as well as seeing how it looks.

Well, that was a very interesting first month of the Hobby Challenge for me!

I have not painted a unit of models in close to five years. It was an unnerving experience
for me to begin again.

Here is a few WIP pics:

I found a tutorial for painting bloodletters that seemed easy to do and that I liked the look of.
This work was done during my lunch hours at work, literally painting in my car and then doing some detail work at night after my shift is over.

Thanks,
Tom

Double post.

It seems I am not very proficient at this monthly updating thing.

My previous post showed some of the WIP shots of my January committment unit of bloodletters.
January came and went and sadly, I did not finish the unit in time to meet my goal for January. I have made significant progress on the unit and with the exception of the color on the rim of the base, I am proclaiming this unit finished.

I'm happy with the way the unit came out. The red is deep but still red and the detail colors
on the tongue and Icon stand out enough but not so much they detract from the bloodletter.

I would like to do better on the eyes and to be neater on the smaller areas like the teeth
and claws but there is time for that later.

As I mentioned in the last post, I still need to paint the base rims and seal the models to "oficially" finish the unit but I'm ok with moving on to the next commitment for February. That will be in my next post.

Thanks,
Tom

They turned out great! Has it really been five years since the last time you painted? You haven't lost anything, that's for sure.

Looking forward to seeing what you're going to do for February.

@World Bleeder-Yes, it's been at least 5 years since I painted a unit....back then I was "loyalist curious" with my Space Marines. Since then, I've embraced the darkness. :)

Here is my February committment unit:

It is the middle of February and I'm in the middle of my committment unit for the month.
Here are some WIP pics:

When I was putting the wash on this unit, they seemed quite dark to me. Looking at the pics,
I don't think they are as dark as I thought originally.

I am making good progress on this unit. I am hoping to finish this unit before the end of the month and to possibly get started on my March unit.

Thanks,
Tom
