One more shot.

I started with the old school rhino that I showed in the start picture. I widened it with form core board and covered that with plasticard on the sides. I also used foam board to making it higher. Foam board proved to be alot easier to work with than the cork board I used on the rhone previously. I think the old models just look to thin and squat
The spikes on the side are toothpicks. I drilled a small hole in these and threaded through a piece of brass wire that I mad into a loop after threading on the jewellery chain. This was hard work! i used the top hull piece that you can see in the before photo(it is near the middle on the top edge, grey plastic) and made a power plant from the pieces of the Pegasus Models chemical plant. i also used parts of this for the exhausts.
Im not entirely happy with the gunner and havoc launcher on top. They seem a little cramped. they are both magnetised so I can remove them if I want.
The skull on the side was made from mold I made from forgeworld iron warriors Land raider door. i had to cut away all the spike was it just didn't fit right. The climbing rails on the side were from florist wire.
I had fun doing the heavy weathering using the heavy chipping fluid.

Oh man, that's so awesome.
Bolter marines never go out of fashion. They are the little black dress of troops choices.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement! I really appreciate them :D

It was good to make something out of the old model.

So for this month I thought Id do the Havocs. I didn't think there would be much to these but just look at the pile of bits for just 6 guys!

The plan is to use the top half of the chaos warriors legs(chop the torso off) and the lower half of the space marine legs. Lots of cutting and filing. Love my dremel for this kind of work! I thought it would be good to have figures that look so obviously different. Makes them look a bit more armoured.
Here is a picture of the first(and only!) one I put together. i thought about using the entire chaos warrior leg but the boots just don't look right to me for chaos marines. I was thinking of trying to sculpt the existing legs into the armoured legs but I just dont think my skill are up to it!

I think it looks ok. The legs are maybe a bit long but I think it is within tolerance. With the big gun he is toting it's not going to be obvious. Im going to add some greenstuff to blend it in a bit and maybe put the chaosy trim on the boots. So this is the way forward I think for these guys.
Here he is dry fitted with arm head and gun. No shoulder pads at this stage.

Im going to have to put something on the base to help position him as he is really on a lean at the moment. I'm goint to have to do a better job of attaching the leg pieces to ensure a better foot angle.

September challenge completed. 6 Havocs with 4 Autocannons. One generic guy with just a bolt gun to stand out front and get shot first!

I might have to do something about those eyes. On the mini I thought they look pretty cool! They all have the bit of chainmail dangling in front of them and the extra armour plates. It didnt end up being that hard to do. I just wish I could take a photo with them all in focus at once!!!!

I had to make another change to my list dropping the second rhino and picking up two more marines and a powerfist in my second unit of troops.

october challenge. Bit late in posting it up. the photo I took about three weeks ago

12 iron warriors
2 melt guns, 9 bolt pistols and chain swords and aspiring champion with powerfist and bolt pistol.
Before shot

Im using a bunch of khorne berserker bodies and legs and mixing them with some normal legs and iron warriors torsos to pick up the marks of Khorne. Using normal chaos heads and some bare heads from Anvil Industries. The torso and legs combo nearest the camera in the furthest to the right row is an anvil industry bionic legs and one of their torsos that I will use for the champion
