Tronzor's Imperial Guard army project!

Post by tronzor » Sat Jan 12, 2013 2:31 am

I have a large Imperial Guard collection that I managed to swap and trade for mostly on a few forums. The list didn't cost me very much to assemble, aside from the two Leman Russes and the two Vendettas. I anticipate the project will look something like the following list, although one of the squads of Steel Legion 'veterans' and my Guardsman Marbo are painted so I'll have to fill the project out with a ForgeWorld Hellhound for good measure.

Company Command Squad with standard, vox caster and Master of Ordinance
Lord Commissar - Sword/Powersword and Power Fist.
2xVeteran Squad - Steel Legion, 3 Plasma Guns
Commissar - Power Weapon & BP
50 Guardsmen, 5 Grenade Launchers, Vox Caster or two.
3-4 Heavy Weapons teams, Lascannons, Autocannons, Missle Launchers and maybe a Heavy Bolter team.
2 Leman Russes
2 Basilisks
2 Vendettas
Guardsman Marbo (painted)
Aegis Line

And the list will look like this:
Company Command Squad - standard, vox caster, 2xMelta Guns and an Officer of the Fleet - 130
Lord Commissar - Power Fist & Power Sword - 105
2xVeteran Squad - 3xPlasma Gun - Mounted in a Vendetta w/Heavy Bolters - 255 ea.
Infantry Platoon - Command Squad - Standard, Vox Caster, 2xPlasma Guns, 40 Guardsmen, 2 HW Squads, 1 Autocannon, 1 Missle Launcher. - 445
Hellhound w/Extra Armor - 160
2xLeman Russ - Heavy Bolter sponsons & Lascannon - 200 ea.
Aegis Line w/Quad Gun - 100
Total of 1850!

Tonight's project has been to get the Vendettas' finally assembled and to get them ready to prime.

The vendettas are cool, although having three of them flying over the battlefield is challenging (but looks awesome!)

I haven't seen a full steel legion army since the Armageddon campaign.

This is going to be awesome.

Thanks for encouragement. It's not a full Steel Legion army as of yet, but I've managed to acquire a full 40 man blob as well as a few other guys to fill out my units. So as of now I have the blob, 1 heavy bolter team and 2 missile launcher teams. I'm trying to get my hands on some more guardsmen so I can fill out the army. I'd also really like to get my hands on a Steel Legion Commissar! Anyways, here's the progress I've made this month.

I have managed to finish painting my Lord Commissar, I'm using the 'Driver' model from Schaeffer's Last Chancer's boxed set. It's a great model and I love the image of a wounded leader still running into the fray!

I've also started basecoating my 40 man blob. I've since primed all the models white and started painting these guys. I'm hoping to finish the blob by the end of the month. It's an ambitious goal, but we'll see how it goes.

I stopped painting the Vendetta's because my airbrush has been a pain in the ass. It's been jamming up even though I'm using thinned down vallejo air paint. I might borrow a friend's brush soon so I can finish the basecoating and then I'll do the detail work with a brush.
