Phase - Praetorian Guard (IG) March Complete!

Post by Phase » Wed Jan 02, 2013 3:41 am

757998.M41
"My lord commander, I write to you in a time of strife. The enemy continues to fall upon us daily. Our forces are stretched, and losses are great. If we are to hold this desert world, our ranks must be bolstered by additional forces. I humbly request your attention to this most urgent of matters"

757999.M41
"Governor;
The ministorum is aware of your desires. It has been decided to grant your request, thus a contingent of Praetorian Guard are now en route to your system aboard the Imperious Lance. As per reports, the suitable support group consists of self propelled artillery, and foot troops. Continue to stay vigilant, your force replenishment is due within 11 standard months. I have provided a manifest of expected forces below. While I personally find your lack of ability to make do with what manpower you already had available, concerning, I have no doubt you will have an opportunity to justify your weakness in the near future, to the Commissariat. A member of which has been dispatched to this contingent.

The emperor protects"

(I'm pretty excited about this challenge. I've wanted to own a Praetorian army for a very long time, and recently was fortunate enough to come across a large group of them at a decent price).

They're going to be done on a desert base, with a fair amount of weathering pigments to blend them into their surrounds.

The theme of the force is obviously a heavy artillery train, with the Praetorian foot platoons keeping the savages at bay long enough for the big guns to obliterate them. To keep with the theme, there's a master of ordinance, a mortar heavy weapons team and some penal legionnaires the 'human mine sweepers'. There's also no armour heavier than 12 in the force, (and no Leman Russ chassis) representing the train not being intended for direct confrontations (that may not pan out all that well!)

I'd love some feedback, and welcome any criticism of the list!

(For January, my units to complete are the Penal Legionaries (made from Orlock gangers) and a Medusa from one of the artillery batteries).

edit: March commitment complete!

Sounds great. Love the theme and content of the list, and the January models look great. Look forward to seeing it painted up. If you're going a desert theme, I recently discovered Vallejo do a great desert tan primer that works great as a basecoat too.. Hobbyrama at Stafford are stocking all the Vallejo paints now.

Oh brilliant! I'll head in and pick some up. I've got to find an old chassis somewhere to practice some schemes on for the vehicles.

We shall see, I fear the Comissariat will not take kindly to his command abilities. :!:

Nice Penal Legion. I like the idea. Plus I like House Orlock as well.

And finally, the finished product with detail work, and weathering pigments.

Lovely work, thoroughly reminding me of Col. Winterbourne's Praetorian Army blog.
