Building a better Bloodthirster

Post by kronos » Tue Feb 21, 2012 1:57 pm

I know this could probably go in the painting & modeling section, but I wanted some feedback from the daemon players.

I'm starting a daemon army in secret from my gaming group. It's intended to be the enemy force in our annual Apocalypse game. How much I play it after that is still up in the air. We usually run the game at 10,000 points per side and I have been working on the list already. Part of the current list involves the formation Bloodthirster Bloodbath, which I will run with 8 Bloodthirsters. Additionally, I plan to run the Forgeworld Khorne daemon prince as Angron. With Angron, I plan to run an additional 8 Bloodthirsters.

This leads me to my dilemma. I really dislike the current Bloodthirster model. Finecast or no, it's just not my style. So what I plan to do is run 16 daemon prince models as Bloodthirsters. I was just going to assemble them as normal and then I started looking around at a few other GW kits. The pictures are of one variation of what I've come up with. There is still work to be done; minor green stuffing, etc.

Input in appreciated on modeling, list building, daemons in Apocalypse or the taint of chaos in general.

Thanks!

I think the Model looks great! Only one nit pick, you gotta have the whip along with the Axe. It's just iconic for the Bloodthirster ;)

Another daemon formation I wanted to test out was the Skulltaker one with 8 units of 8 bloodletters. mmmm 64 hellblades. I'd love to see a new formation just for bloodcrushers

The whip is definitely in the works. This one I was just excited to put together as soon as I got home, so he got what I think is a decent looking off hand weapon. I will be green stuffing a whip on other models. I was contemplating magnetizing that hand on the others as well.

I do plan to use the Skulltaker's Cohort of Blood and the Brotherhood of Blood (Kharn, daemon prince, herald of Khorne and 8 units of 8 berzerkers in rhinos with combi-meltas). I think the list may be rounded out with 8 Bloodcrushers, but I'm still debating between that or a few units of hounds with Karnak.

Better Thom? :)

Some clean up and green stuffing to do. Of course the wings still need to be added.

So cool! Are you going to theme the battle after the 1st (?) battle for armageddon? I seem to remember that having crazy amounts of blood thirsters...

I was just going for an all out, in your face Khorne list. Now that you mention it though, I will have to look into it more. Thanks for the idea!

That is a pretty amazing conversion. Now that I see it, it makes so much sense! Well done, sir.
