Eldar Craftworld help

Post by The _Last Primarch » Sat Oct 18, 2014 6:56 am

Hi Guys,

Having been inspired by the show of force episode on Eldar I'm looking for some help in putting together my Craftworld. I've had models sitting since 5th Ed that I still haven't painted because I can't decide on a colour scheme.

I like the idea of having each aspect based on the traditional colours, ie orange fire dragons, but tying them all together using an accent colour that would feature on guardians/vehicles/etc. I think it is the Biel-Tan that are styled like this?
I'm toying with purple as the accent colour. Any thoughts?

I also like the idea of trying to work some of the harlequin iconography into the vehicles, ie coloured diamond patterns. Does anyone have any advice on this? And especially can anyone suggest any fluff reasons as to why this Craftworld would celebrate their links with harlequins in this way? I'm a bit sketchy on their background and don't fully understand their links to Eldar/DE.

Any and all help/images will be appreciated.

Don't know much about cwe but if you are wondering if you can paint diamonds try drawing it on with a mechanical pencil. You could even use a flexible ruler. Then just fill it in with paint.

Good shout with drawing it out first - that'll be pretty good on the flat vehicle surfaces. Thanks

You can actually achieve a diamond pattern on your vehicles by priming the vehicle say blue.... then put a diamond shaped net or cut out over over it and priming it red or any other color you like. I've seen a lot of airbrush specialists do it and it couldnt be easier.

Also if you fancy a Craftworld with strong ties to the Harlies... Lugganth has strong ties to the harlies, and they expert vehicle builders. Their paint scheme is also awesome!

Agree with Cavalier if you can find a good net that works. Have seen similar effects done with Carbon Fibre and the like on Tau. Gives a real old school sci-fi effect. :D Post some pics when you get started.

I've had success painting diamonds with the following method:
  • Paint vertical lines a set distance apart.
Draw X 's equidistantly down between the newly created columns.
Fill in with desired colors, covering the original lines but leaving the X 's.
If you only have hand painting available to you on small surfaces, I found this useful. Good luck!
