Upcoming tournament - Need advice

Post by xenite » Wed Jan 22, 2014 10:55 am

Im taking 1850 of Eldar to a tournament. I have little actual tournament experience with 40k. What general advice would you give an Eldar player?

Get in a few practice games where you play on a time limit! It's a totally different game when you're on a clock.

That is great advice!

Don't forget to bring a bottle of superglue. Something will break...

Don't get flustered. You will see stuff you didn't expect. Be a sportsman the other players will respect it. Have fun most of all. Play the mission too not just the army you are facing.

Playing the mission was one of the mistakes I made in events early on.

Don't assume people know the rules well. BUT, be nice when questioning something they've done. Most likely it is an honest error or maybe they are using an interpretation from their local group.

If you find yourself flummoxed by what is going on and you can't decide what to do.... JUST KILL THE TROOPS. Killing Troops choices is like guessing "C" on a test, but if "C" were the answer 80% of the time. So many mid-level players make the mistake of bringing minimum troops in favor of heavy hitters and personal favorites. These should be easy games for anyone who follows this rule of thumb.

Cool. I like these points! Getting more games in is something I need to do. I hear you about targeting troops. Ive not played enough to see how that plays out, but as a Flames of War player, I see the value of staying on objective. My 1850 build has all 6 troop builds filled in a way I like.
