Episode 146 - The 2016 Warhammer 40k Year in Review

Post by cvtuttle » Sun Jan 08, 2017 8:29 pm

Episode 146 of The Independent Characters goes back to 2016 to discuss the year that was.

First we open with some hobby progress, a dip into our plans for 2017, and then move into a quick interview with Teras of Geek Nation Tours to discuss the Geekend out with Miniatures in the UK tour.

After that we launch into a lengthy list and discussion about how Games Workshop treated Warhammer 40k in 2016. What a year it was! Not only do we discuss what products came out in support of Warhammer 40k, we also talk a bit about where we think they may be going this year.

Even as we were recording, Games Workshop released the brand new Keeper of Secrets model (and Kairos Fateweaver), and we spend a few minutes trying to catch our breath after seeing htat! All of that and more in this episode! We hope you enjoy

Hi Carl, Adan and Justin,

Hello from the UK! Like many of your listeners, after a lengthy hiatus from 40k and gaming in general (16yrs long years), I happened upon your podcast out of shear nostalgia and curiosity. Two months later I have listened to all the available episodes and spent a ton of money at my local GW. My life is now back on track. Thank you! The podcast is truly great and as you discuss in the latest episode - it is a great time to be back in the hobby. You released the episode a day early though! Check out today's headlines about GWs profits!!!

"Profits soar at Games Workshop as fantasy model retailer battles back from slump" from the Telegraph (Uk main paper)

Again, thank you guys for the show. It's a life changer! (and great quality recordings).

Kind regards,

Jack

I'm not sure that means what you think it means...

Hopefully an upward spiral for GW and the fans.

A downward spiral for my finances and hard-earned street cred.

You never added the show note about the lamp. Can't find it with Amazon search. Little help?

After listening to the show, I've learned that I too have way too much stuff. I'm going to choose three armies (of the 7 that I currently have) and sell/trade the others. With all the new stuff that's come out, it would be waaaaaayyyy too expensive to bring those four armies up to date anyway. By thinning out the herd, I can also focus on finishing the stuff I have before I go all crazy getting more stuff again. Off the top of my head, Necrons, Ultramarines, Thousand Sons, Imperial Guard, Emperor's Children are going out the door.

It will be a good day for Orks, Tau and Blood Angels and they'll have more room to stretch out.

I realized this and posted it in the comments section of the post on the page for this episode and on our FB page.

Here it is though

Still wading through this episode, but I've got one comment on Inquisitor Whatsherface and the heels and corset debate.

The problem with Carl's "You can have boob-plate, you can not have boob-plate, whatever..." stance is that the "Not Boob-plate Option" doesn't actually exist with the exception of some Tau units. If you want any female representation in your army, it's going to involve skin-tight body armor.

If you stick with GW models? Yep. And as a girl, I find it rather frustrating. BUT, there are really nice models out there from third parties, and a few don't have skin tight armor:

I swear, if I don't get a box of plastic sisters troops soon - I'm going to buy these:
